Bourne running star Alex Hampson stormed through the qualifying time for the English Schools National Championships 1500m when he smashed his personal best for the distance at a Watford athletics meeting on May 7.

The Nene Valley Harrier, who has just turned 16, ran a time of 4:05.99 to secure his place in one of the biggest and most prestigious athletics championships in the country. The qualifying time for the Inter-boys 1500m is 4:07.00.

The championships are the fourth largest athletics event in the world, and will be televised live by Sky Sports on the weekend of July 11 and 12 at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
