The regional championships of the floor and vault gymnastics competition were held at Stamford Junior School on Saturday.

The event was also a qualifier for the National Finals in May, with the winning team from each category going forward to represent the East Midlands.

The Stamford Endowed Schools entered four teams, all of which had trained hard and prepared well.

The under-19 girls team performed well to finish second.

The other three Stamford Endowed School teams
- the under-11 girls, under-11 mixed and under-14 girls - dominated their respective sections to finish first and qualify to represent the East Midlands region at the National Finals.

The under-11 mixed team, who are the current National Champions, won their section by 12.8 marks.

Coach Trudy Smith said: “The SES gymnasts rose to the challenge and performed some classy work which received positive comments from the judges. Their hard work certainly paid off.”

The following gymnasts received individual honours in their sections: under-11 girls – 1st Imogen Foster, 2nd Sophie Halsall, and 3rd Beth Wilson; under-11 mixed – 1st Isabella Plant, 2nd Alexander Hayes, and 3rd Rachel Harte; under-14 girls – 1st Lottie Smith and 3rd Emilie Morris.
