A father and son from the Bourne area have won medals at the national Tang Soo Do karate championships on March 16.

Ben Parkinson and his father Graham Parkinson competed in sparring and kata/forms.

Both were competing for the first time and excelled on the day.

Ben won a bronze medal for kata.

Ben was the smallest competitor on the day and also had to spar against a much bigger opponent.

When the referee said ‘go’ Ben certainly did and managed to block the big kicks coming in and landed a punch to score a point.

A shout from the crowd of ‘go on mini man’
could be heard across the venue.

He lost 3-1 but managed to earn the respect of the crowd and competitors due to his courage.

Graham Parkinson also gained bronze for sparring.

Both fighters were trained by Matthew Parkes at the Stamford and Bourne Martial Arts classes.
