Deepings dart thrower Martin Adams is bidding to become the first player to lift the BDO World Trophy over the next few days.

Adams is seeded 13 for the inaugural staging of the tournament, being held at Blackpool Tower until Sunday, and will face a qualifier in the first round today (Friday).

The World Trophy, which boasts a £115,000 prize fund, is one of a number of new events aiming to breathe new life into the BDO calendar this year.

Adams missed out on a third Dutch Open title last weekend when being beaten 4-2 by eventual runner-up Scott Waites at the last 32 stage.
