Market Deeping achieved ‘greatness’ when defeating reigning Lincs Premier Division champions Sleaford by eight wickets on Saturday.
Deeping skipper Dave Gillett was thrilled to bits with his team’s display as they restricted the home side to 187-6 in their 50 overs before storming to victory which was completed with more than 10 overs to spare.
“It was a great performance with both bat and ball,” Gillett enthused. “We bowled well, fielded well and opening batsmen Jamie Morgan and Chris Jones were fantastic.”
Morgan (88 from 89 balls) and Jones (59) put on 156 for the first Deeping wicket and have become an effective partnership of contrasting styles - Morgan provides the smash, Jones the style.
Earlier Meli Adatia had captured the prize scalp of former New Zealand Test batsman Tim McIntosh for 44 on his way to figures of 3-41.
Deeping’s fine victory wasn’t enough to move them up from third place as top two Bourne and Bracebridge Heath also won.
Bourne were concerned at halfway after slumping from 101-3 to 131 all-out at The Abbey Lawn. Conrad Louth (47) and Carl Wilson (28) had added 58 on a tricky surface for the fourth wicket.
But express bowler Colin Cheer (5-16) rode to the rescue as Lincoln were quickly reduced to 20-5 chasing 66.
It was a disappointing day for Billingborough who suffered a heavy home defeat at the hands of Woodhall Spa.
The village side won the toss and chose to bowl to some success, keeping the run rate at less then 3.5 an over to leave Woodhall Spa on 172-5 at the end of their 50 overs.
However after the break Billingborough collapsed when at the crease. Steve Scott (32) hit almost half of his side’s runs as they were all out for 70 in the 25th over.
Beacebridge Heath were comfortable winners by 49 runs at Spalding despite another useful all-round display from Sri Lankan Thivanka Rajaratne (3-26 & 24). Josh Newton (44) top scored in Spalding’s 149.
