A knock of 79 from Patrick Croker undid Bourne 2nds away at Wellingborough Town in Division Four of the Rutland League on Sunday.

He helped the hosts to 213 after they had been put in to bat first.

Bourne 2nds’ bowlers did considerably better than their 1st team counterparts, bowling the opposition out but a couple of decent batting performances just put Wellingborough into safe territory, most notably Jack Lawrence’s 43 at number seven in the order. He shored things up after both Cameron Ross and Connor Gates had gone for ducks.

Shilander Rainault took a costly 4-70 for Bourne.

Daniel Whadcok finished with 3-45 and Chris Binns 2-51. Tom Ellison had just the one wicket for 14.

Bourne’s reply never developed. The chase started promisingly, although opener Binns went for 14. But Ben Woodward hit 31 and Whadcock added 35, and once they were dismissed the rest of the order, barring Friend (26), were unable to offer much resistance and the side were out in the 40th over for 149.

Bourne 2nds now sit just one place above the drop zone.
