The seventh anniversary of Rutland Water Golf Club was celebrated on Saturday last week as 80 members took on the course in competition.

Paul Tomson won the day with an amazing level par round and a score of 40 points, which included three birdies and Tomson topped off the day by even winning the longest drive prize on the 18th hole.

Andy Dennis was second with 38 and Chris Thomas third with 37.

In the ladies competition Marion Clarke won the day with 36 points and ahead of Christine Bodily in second and Jo Morris in third.

Head professional John Pengelly who along with joint owner Steve Makey handed out the prizes to the winners, said: ‘This has been a fantastic celebration for the club and with membership numbers for this year bucking the national trend and beyond expectations, the club is really going from strength to strength.”

Pengelly is currently in great form himself shooting four under par in the club’s Tuesday night roll up, which again saw a fantastic turnout of almost 50 members. This is a timely return to form for Pengelly who along with assistant professional Adrian Ashworth are looking to be hitting top gear ahead of next month’s Open Championship qualifier.

A warm welcome greeted Rutland Water Seniors team on arrival at North Luffenham Golf Club. Captain Tony Wright teed off first on what turned out to be the first short sleeved match of the year.
