Thurlby racing driver James Abbott, who set a record in Formula Ford last year as the only driver to score points in all 30 races, is on track to have a tilt the title this year.
The 20-year-old, who races for the Radical Sportscars team, won the opening race in the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain at Brands Hatch in March.
Abbott led the race in the second round of the championship at Brands Hatch from pole position to chequered flag, pursued for the full distance by Falcon Motorsport duo Ricky Collard and Harrison Scott.
Abbott started from pole and led the race from the front thanks to his vast experience in Radical sportscar racing
The race was Abbott and his team’s first victory since joining the Formula Ford Championship last season.
Since the blistering start to the season he has struggled to keep pace with the leaders.
In the latest round of the championship, round 11 at Oulton Park, he qualified in sixth position and was 11th in race one, sixth in race two and fifth in race three.
Abbott currently lies fifth in the championship with 226 points, 57 points behind leader Jayde Kruger.
Abbott is hoping a strong second half to the season will see him better his fifth place finish in 2013.
His next race meeting is at Croft on June 28 and 29.
