Golf: Toft hosts outstanding county captain's match

LINCOLNSHIRE won the first ever Captain's Society game against Norfolk at Toft in Friday.

The two sides played a four-ball betterball format off handicap and the home side won 6-4.

Toft player Alan Smith organised the match and said the day had been a great success.

He said: "We had a fantastic day. Toft did expertly to make it a superb day. There was a good standard of golf and scoring was tight and a lot of the matches went to the 17th or 18th hole."

Players from 18 clubs across Lincolnshire represented the county and a return fixture is already planned for a Norfolk venue next year.

THE Rosemary Williams Rose Bowl (named after the first Toft lady captain) was fittingly won by Toft's current lady captain Lorraine Robinson who put together an excellent round of 83-15-68 to claim top spot. Cathy Lee was second with 82-10-72 and vice captain Helen Roscoe came third with 93-20-73

A Weekend Stableford competition was won by Alison Ravenhill with a good score of 40 points and Christine Barnes came second on 35.

The July Medal went to Chris Barnes who found another good round with 91-23-68. Helen Roscoe was second on 91-20-71 and Margaret Dair third with 92-19-73.

Almost 40 ladies turned out to play in the Lady Captain's Day competition held to help raise 127 for the captain's chosen charity The Rheumatoid Arthritis Society.

Players competed fiercely and the main competition places were separated by only three points with countback needed to determine the winner (Jacqueline Hilton 43 pts) edging ahead of Judith Childs. Third was Mandy Lees (42) and fourth Maggie Steer (41).

Nearest the pin on the 3rd was Liz Robinson, on the 13th Anne Wildish and nearest in two on the 9th was Mary Stark.

Best on the front 9 was Mary Stark (26pts) and on the back 9, Maureen Paulson (21pts).
