Toft’s unbeaten B team have an eye on the league title

Toft Golf Club’s B team remain unbeaten at the midway stage of the season.

With one eye on the league title, they took on Belton Woods away in their latest match and emerged with an impressive 3½-2½ victory.

Belton has not always been happy hunting ground for Toft, whose A team were ravaged there earlier in the season.

However the B team dug in and were rewarded for their efforts. All the matches were close and it took a monster putt from Ollie Aspinall on the final hole to secure the win.

Results: Mark Gould and Paul Taylor lost 5&4; Shaun Gough and Les Lawrence halved; Dave Magill and Ian Moore lost 4&3; Paul Hubbard and Alan Barnes won 3&2; Keith Sims and Ian Henderson won 2&1; Ollie Aspinall and Stuart Parker won 1 up.

l Toft Ladies’ league team won in their recent home match against Lincoln, coming away with a 3-1 victory.

League captain Mairead Scott and Lorraine Robinson produced a solid 4&2 win that was matched by Mandy Lees and Helen Roscoe. Sandra Wildmore and Chris Barnes were equally strong with a 4&3 victory, while Mary Stark and Dianne Clayton lost 1 down.

Toft ladies were also successful in a friendly match at home to Boston West.

Two thumping wins gave the home team a sure-fire start with Sandra Allen and Lisa Gauci winning 6&4, and Mary Stark and Pat Key going even better with a 7&6 win.

Lady Captain Sandra Wildmore and Jacqueline Hilton lost a close contest 2 down, but Karen Parsonage and Jean Parsons secured a battling half to give Toft ladies a 2½-1½ triumph.

There was some good scoring in a recent Stableford competition won by Chris Barnes on 38 points.

She was closely followed by Karen Parsonage on 37, with Lorraine Robinson dropping to third on countback.

l Sixteen ladies from Toft were joined by guests in an 18 hole betterball Stableford at the club on Ladies Invitation Day.

The course was in excellent condition and the day proved a highly successful event which raised £113 for the Butterfield Centre. Lady Captain Sandra Wildmore thanked everyone who had helped.

The actual competition saw high scoring with the mother and daughter combination of Lisa Gauci and Philippa Cadge winning with 42 points.

Mairead Scott and Bev Dolman were second with 39 and last year’s winners Mandy Lees and Judy Cade came third on 38.

Nearest the line on the 12th was Chris Redfern. Bev Dolman was nearest the pin on the third and Lorraine Robinson bagged nearest the pin on the 13th and took the 2’s pool prize.

l Toft’s mixed team played Rutland County in a friendly and were blown away 4-2 on a blustery day in Rutland.
