Stamford AFC host Ilkeston FC tonight (October 13) at the Zeeco Stadium, 7.45pm ko, as they look to get their first win at home this season in the Evo-Stik NPL, and new manager Andrew Wilson goes in search of his first three points since taking over.
The big question on all Daniels fans’ minds will be whether Wilson starts long-standing club captain Richard Jones at centre back.
Jones, who is widely regarded as Stamford’s best player, was dropped to the bench for Saturday’s 2-1 home lose to Workington.
Stamford will need to be tight at the back as well as Ilkeston come to Borderville with a great defensive record having conceded just one goal in their last three games, which all came at home.
Ilkeston currently sit in 11th place in the table while Stamford are languishing in 23rd place with just eight points after 12 games. They bad news is even with a win they would remain in the relegation zone with Colwyn Bay on 13 points in 20th place so they really need to start picking up points quickly.
Jon Challinor, who wore the captain’s armband in the absence of Jones on Saturday, is a doubt for tonight’s game due to an ankle injury. However Wilson has added another player to his squad this week in the shape of Bermudian international midfielder Roger Lee, who could come straight in for Challinor.
Former Leicester City striker Levi Porter could also make his debut tonight having been signed on dual registration from Shepshed Dynamo.
Eddy Samba and Jordan Smith are into their second game of six game suspensions and will miss the match.
