Wakes determined to remain unbeaten
THE Wakes return to the Abbey Lawn tomorrow with their 2012 unbeaten record intact.
Bourne picked up more points on the road last weekend, beating Northampton ON Chenecks 2-1 courtesy of a late winner from Alex Brockbank.
Stu Lambie gave Bourne the lead with a goal five minutes before the break.
Chenecks pulled level after 67 minutes but Bourne won it when Brockbank scored from the penalty spot after 87 minutes.
Bourne, who endured a terrible end to 2011, are have now gone four games unbeaten in the league.
Bourne boss Darren Munton said: “There was not a lot between the two sides but I think we deserved it overall.
“We are going along nicely. The dressing room is much happier and there is a better atmosphere.
“I’ve always said that if the lads work hard they will get their rewards. We are looking better defensively and have cut out the stupid mistakes.
“We have a few injuries. Stu Lambie had to come off at half time after he turned his ankle while celebrating his goal, and Josh Kamau has a calf injury.”
Tuesday’s Lincolnshire Senior Trophy semi-final clash with UCL Premier side Holbeach United was abandoned after 36 minutes due to a floodlight failure at the Abbey Lawn.
The game was goalless at the time and with power unable to be restored, the game was abandoned.
Wakes secretary Bob Lambert said the problem has since been fixed and that tomorrow’s match against Buckingham Town will go ahead as planned.
Bourne’s Reserves rounded off their home fixtures with their second 5-0 victory on the trot, this time beating Boston Town Reserves.
Danny Pick scored a hat-trick for the second week running with Scott McKenzie and Daniel Bratcher also on the scoresheet.
Pick opened the scoring in the first half and McKenzie doubled Bourne’s lead, chipping the Boston keeper from 35 yards, in the second half. Pick claimed two more before Bratcher rounded off the rout in the 83rd minute.
Reserves boss James Dainty said: “We defended brilliantly and took our chances.
“Thank you to all the fans who have supported us.”
The reserves have six away games to round off their season.
Bourne: Matt Gilson, Kevin Elger, Tom Cardall, Seb Hood (Andy Moss), Dan Smith, Aaron Jesson, Rob Dunn, Stuart Lambie (Dan Jarman), Alex Brockbank, Josh Kamau (Dan Mason), John Currall.
Bourne Res: Tom Hill, Samuel Linford, Jason Gough, Shaun Dennis, Mark Shrosbree, Jack Bottreill (Ben Thomson), Ashley Firth, Josh Bell, Scott McKenzie (Luke Enderwick), Danny Pick, Ross Bell (Daniel Bratcher). Unused sub: Wayne Dewsbury.
l BOURNE Town FC Club secretary Bob Lambert quashed reports elsewhere that Spalding United are set to groundshare at the Abbey Lawn.
Mr Lambert said: “I can confirm that there has categorically been no contact between the two clubs’ committees about this.
“How Bourne could accommodate another team playing Saturday football? It is not possible unless they played midweek under lights which would be of great cost.
“If put to the committee of Bourne it would be unanimously voted out. The committee have one objective only and that is to stabilise the club both on and off the pitch without any further distractions.”
He added: “Dropping down to Division One has been proven a blessing with less matches and less wear on the pitch, and with the future of the UCL in serious doubt Bourne Town will have a lot of serious thinking to do for the future.”
