A draw against one of the league’s leading teams and a cup win gave Bourne boss Raffa Mazzarella plenty to smile about.

Bourne took the lead at home to Lutterworth on Saturday last week when Jezz Goldson-Williams volleyed home a cross from the right by Jones De Sousa two minutes in.

Goldson-Williams forced another save from Athletic keeper Ollie Faulkner before the visitors levelled after 53 minutes from a penalty.

Mazzarella said: “I am really pleased with both the performance and the result because Lutterworth will be right up there at the end if the season.

“We got off to a really good start with a great finish from Jezz and we continued to play well for another 10 to 15 minutes.

“On the whole they had more possession and will probably say we parked the bus but I prefer to say we defended superbly. We were quite happy to sit in and soak up the pressure and we did it really well.

“We totally deserved the point and my players put in a great shift. I would have settled for that before the game.”

On Tuesday night, Bourne followed up with a 4-2 win over St Neots Town Youth & Saints in the Hinchingbrooke Cup first round.
