Uppingham Town dumped holders Moulton Harrox out of the senior cup with a penalty shoot-out victory which further boosts hopes of winning silverware this season.
Moulton, who also won the league title and Lincs county cup last term, tested Town in every department, but the Rutland side were worthy winners after key saves by ‘keeper Tom Hubbard.
League challengers Uppingham are themselves now battling on three fronts following their Premier Cup quarter-final win over Coates Althletic last week.
Saturday’s 3-2 win on penalties, which followed a 1-1 scoreline after extra-time, earns Uppingham a mouthwatering tie in the next round against local rivals Oakham United, who beat Crowland 4-1 in the competition at the weekend.
The two sides also meet this Saturday, when there will be more than mere local pride at stake in the ChromaSport & Trophies Peterborough League Premier fixture.
Oakham have home advantage and are desperate to pull away from the bottom end of the table, while Uppingham need to keep up the pressure on their fellow challengers, all of whom have played more games.
