There is no hotter team in the PDFL Premier Division right now than Uppingham Town.
The Rutland side’s latest victory saw them beat Sawtry Town 2-0 on Saturday.
That means Town are unbeaten in their last nine matches, having won eight of them to pick up a remarkable 25 points from a possible 27.
If they had been showing that type of form all season then Uppingham would be competing with Moulton Harrox at the top of the league who are yet to lose in the league this season.
However Uppingham’s latest win was no walkover as Sawtry had their spells.
Town got off to a storming start, scoring both goals in the opening half. Will Thomas made his mark on the game with a stunning individual effort, cutting in-field and then releasing an unstoppable blast into the top corner.
Later in the half James Howe was brought down in the area and dusted himself off to score from 12 yards.
In the second half Uppingham failed to build on the good start they had made and in the final moments they had to dig in to see the win out.
Their efforts were helped by Sawtry’s wastefulness in front of goal, none more so than when the hosts missed a penalty, 10 minutes from time, putting the effort wide of the upright.
Town travel to Pinchbeck United on Saturday for a much sterner test.
