Two late goals salvage Wakes a point at the Abbey Lawn
The Wakes salvaged a point with two goals in the dying minutes to earn a 3-3 draw at home to Thrapston Town on Tuesday evening.
Bourne had hoped to complete the double against a side they beat 3-1 just days earlier but were trailing 3-1 with 88 minutes gone.
Scott Spearink then lobbed the Thrapston keeper to give Bourne hope and as the clock ticked down substitute Seb Hood set up Tom Caldicott for his second of the night to earn his side a point.
Bourne manager Darren Munton said: “We were 3-1 down after 88 minutes and I took a gamble. We threw Seb Hood on and went to three at the back, and it got us out of jail.”
The Wakes defending had left Munton unimpressed but he was pleased with the spirit shown by the late fightback.
“We gifted them three goals,” he said. “They scored from a throw and a corner that we should have dealt with.
“Earlier in the season we would have gone on to lose a game like that. We have improved drastically over the past two months. As long as we keep improving, I will be happy.”
Bourne: Alex Brown, Kev Elgar, Aaron Jesson, Dan Smith, Andy Moss, Lee Wood, Mike Feely (Fernand Bass), Tom Caldicott, Tom Cardall (Scott Spearink), John Currall, Ben Easson (Seb Hood).
