Stamford Daniels midfielder Jon Challinor has been signed by Conference Premier side Halifax Town and could feature for the club tonight when they face Salisbury City.
The 33-year-old has signed dual forms with Halifax, who are currently sitting fifth in the Conference and Stamford, meaning he would be able to return to the Daniels if unused at Halifax.
Challinor, who rejoined the Daniels in the summer has been in fine form through December, peaking on Boxing Day when he scored twice in Stamford’s 3-0 victory over Kings Lynn.
His recent impressive displays saw him voted December player of the month by the club’s fans.
Manager David Staff said: “At this stage is his life this could be the last big chance of his career.
“Jon has always been had an agreement with us that if a Conference club came in, we wouldn’t stand in his way.
“Halifax are in a position where they need someone who can come in with experience and do a job and Jon fits the bill.
“He has enjoyed his time with us and we wish him well. He has been of great value to the club and he always gave his best for us. If for whatever reason it doesn’t work out, we keep his forms and would welcome someone of his ability and attitude back, no problem.”
Challinor has plenty of experience playing in higher leagues.
Most recently he played for the York City side promoted to League Two via the play-offs in 2012.
The midfielder also won the FA Trophy in 2012, beating Newport 2-0 in the final at Wembley.
During his two-year spell at the club he made 73 appearances, 22 of which were in the Football League before being released.
Challinor started his career with Rushden and Diamonds. He was released in 2000 when he joined Stamford for a season. Following a year at the Daniels he had spells with, Cambridge City, the Kalamazoo Kingdom and St Albans City.
In 2004 he reached the Football Conference play-off final with Aldershot Town, and after another unsuccessful play-off campaign in the 2004–05 season signed for Exeter City in 2005.
Challinor played in the 2007 Conference National play-off final defeat before returning to Rushden in 2007
He left for Cambridge United a year later, playing for them in the 2009 Conference Premier play-off final.
After spells with Forest Green Rovers, Mansfield Town, Brackley Town, Newport County and Kettering Town he joined York City.
