It’s official. Stamford AFC’s last game at the Vic Couzens Stadium in Wothorpe Road will be this Saturday (November 22).

The Daniels will play Rushall Olympic in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League fixture, kick-off 3pm.

There was some doubt when the final game would be played at the ground, which has been home to the Daniels for 118 years, because the last game was due to be against FC United of Manchester on November 29 but that fixture has been postponed because their opponents will be in cup action in the FA Trophy.

It was confirmed today (Wednesday) that Stamford will now not have a league fixture on November 29 due to possible opponents being involved in the cup.

A statement on the Daniels website said: “This will be a memorable and emotional day for everyone connected with the Daniels.

“Please come and mark this momentous day dressed in Daniels colours, so dig out your replica shirts or just something red and come and enjoy the day.”

David Staff, first-team manager of the Daniels, added: “It is going to be a massive day for the club, especially for the fans who have been coming to the ground for decades. I’ll be feeling emotional myself, having played a lot of games for the club at Kettering Road during my playing career.

“The current ground is a wonderful football ground, one that is loved by fans of lots of different non-league clubs, and although we are all sad to be leaving, it is the right move for the club and the new facility at Borderville is absolutely fantastic.

“We have struggled at home this season a little bit, and whether that is because of the uncertainty over the ground I don’t know, but I wish we were on a bit of a better run going in to the final game.

“We will be doing everything we can to get that final victory for the club and the fans because we want to end this part of our history on a high.”

The first home game at the new Zeeco Stadium on Ryhall Road will be on December 13 against Nantwich Town.
