Stamford AFC star striker Ryan Robbins was meant to be earning his third international cap last night, playing for St Kitts and Nevis as they attempt to qualify for Russia 2018, however he has been forced to fly home after picking up an injury.

Robbins, who scored 21 league goals last season, injured his Achilles’ tendon training with the squad in Miami ahead of their home and away double header with higher ranked El Salvador.

Robbins said on Twitter: “ Gutted I ain’t in St Kitts with the rest of the Squad #OneTeamOneGoal #SKN #SKPositive”

In an earlier message he confirmed that he is heading back to the UK for treatment and he felt ‘gutted’ to be missing out on the chance of playing for his country again.

The second leg of the qualifying round takes place on Tuesday.

Last month Robbins signed on for another year with the Daniels. He was also voted the players’ player of the year and is the central threat in the Evo-Stik NPL club’s attack.
