Deeping Rangers were the pick of the sides in pre-season action last night (July 15), securing an emphatic 8-0 home win over St Neots.
It took half an hour for Rangers to get on the scoreboard but when they did the floodgates opened.
Jamie Graham got the first of his double in the 32nd minute.
Fraser Sturgess then scored in the 39th minute before winning a penalty moments later. Matt Heron stepped up to dispense the spot kick.
Before the break Ben Porter made it four. In the second half Heron notched his second of the match after seven minutes of action but Deeping were made to wait to add further names to the scoresheet.
In the last ten minutes the well-beaten visitors shipped a further three goals with David Burton Jones and Tom Smith scoring and Graham adding his second of the match.
Not bad considering this was a team wondering where the goals were going to come from with the loss of two of their leading strikers in the off-season.
Meanwhile Stamford AFC lost 3-0 to Southern Football League Premier Division side Histon.
Stamford shaded the first half of an enjoyable encounter at the Vic Couzens Stadium, creating good chances but a sloppy short back pass was seized upon by the visitors and Mateusz Kuzminski’s alert finish gave them a 1-0 lead at half time.
Things quickly good worse for the Daniels after the break when Franklin Mensah headed the ball into the net inside the box with just two minutes of the second half played.
Late in the game Histon made it three with a tap in for Henry Randell.
Stamford’s defence included three new signings in the form of full back Ellis Myles, former King’s Lynn skipper Ryan Clarke and Cameron Powell who has joined the Daniels from Oadby.
Myles particularly caught the eye last night.
Elsewhere Bourne Town lost 2-1 to Riverside at home at the Abbey Lawn.
