Stamford side Blackstones kicked-off their pre-season friendlies on Saturday with a 3-2 loss to UCL Premier side Sleaford Town.

Stones, who play one division below in the UCL Division One, started lively with disciplined challenging of the ball and pressing the home team hard to cause a nuisance.

The early pressure paid off with Addy Staffieri beat the off-side trap and slotted a measured ball passed the keeper.

From the restart the home team announced their intentions with a sustained assault on the Stones’ goal but it was from a Stones corner and a loose midfield pass that the home team finally broke through - seeing the Stone keeper off his line a sharp Sleaford attacker floated the ball over a rapidly retreating John Swales, however the Blackstones stopper was unable to recover.

Minutes later a soft foul 25 yards out from the Stones’ goals resulted in the home team gaining the lead with a well-struck bending freekick.

Stones continued to fight hard and were rewarded when a corner was bundled over the line by James Curran and Kieran Arthur. Just before half time Sleaford retook the lead when the right wing was left unattended and took full advantage of the space to nip in and score.

The second half saw Stones press with much more purpose and they had the home team penned back but neither side were able to change the score line,

Stones’ second half replacement keeper pulled off some spectacular reaction saves when called for to keep the result respectable.

On the whole there many positive to be taken from their first outing despite the final result.

Stones’ next game is at home on Wednesday next week, kick off 7.45pm, against Evo-Stik Northern Premier side Stamford AFC.

Before kick-off the new kit will be presented to the club by new sponsors Ability Construction Limited.

Off the field Blackstones FC are looking to recruit a physio to assist the First team coach. Anyone interested should call manager Nick Anderson on 07977097863.
