Oakham United were described as one of the best teams ever to grace the PDFL Premier Division after dismantling Pinchbeck United 6-0 to go top of the table on Saturday.

Beaten boss Ian Dunn was the man dishing out the praise. His side had only lost once before the weekend rout.

Dunn said: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better team at this level.

“I think we lost to the league champions.”

Robbie Dance, new signing Matt Holland, David Laughton, Edward McDonald, Adam Rothery and Alex Brown scored the Oakham goals.

The Rutlanders were able to move to the top as Coates Athletic were surprisingly beaten 2-1 at home by Peterborough Sports Reserves. Luke Elsom and Matthew Jarvis were on target for the winners with Matt Heron claiming a consolation goal for Coates.

It was also a good weekend for the other Rutland team competing in the top division in the PDFL league.

Uppingham Town won 4-0 at home to Thorney with Martin Bennett, Jamie Binley, Callum Campbell and Omar Elkashoty netting in the victory.
