New Stones boss relishes first managerial challenge
Blackstones Football Club have named former Yaxley utility player David Stratton as their new manager this afternoon.
Stratton is expected to watch this evening’s game against Spalding United at Lincoln Road and take over fully ahead of Saturday’s home tie against Long Buckby.
It will be the first managerial role for Stratton who played for more than a decade at Yaxley and also spent spells at March and in the Peterborough and District League’s premier division.
Stratton, who will meet his players for the first time this evening, said: “I have been out for a while but have got my appetite back and this opportunity came at the right time.
“I have played there lots of times and know the facilities.
“If possible I would like us to play a nice passing game but we are half-way through the season and the first aim is to pick up five wins so we can then build towards next year.”
Stratton, who has also captained Yaxley Cricket Club is bringing in Ron Beech was his assistant.
“He’s somebody that I know well and he has a lot of knowledge in the game,” added Stones new manager.
