Munton delighted by superb Bourne

THE 2012 Wakes look a different side to the one that ended 2011 in such poor form.
Unbeaten in three, Bourne held the leaders Harborough to a goalless draw last Friday evening and could easily have snatched all three points.
Seb Hood was denied by a fine save in the first half and Josh Kamau and Dan Jarman both went close after the break.
Darren Munton’s side have now won one and drawn two of their three games this month and the challenge now is to keep the run going when they return to action on January 28.
Munton said: “Now we have to keep this run going.
“The lads did the club proud on Friday. The players are enjoying their football again and confidence is rising.
“We are still not in the best of positions but it has been a great New Year. It’s just a shame that we do not have a game this weekend.”
The Wakes manager was delighted by his side’s performance at Harborough, saying: “They were fantastic.
“It was the best we have played all season.”
Harborough had previously scored 48 goals in 17 games and Munton knew his side would face a strong threat.
But he said: “Dan Smith and Aaron Jesson were great during the whole game. They did not give one of the division top-scorers a sniff.
“They stopped them passing the ball around and the only disappointment is that we didn’t score.
“It would have been nice to have come away with three points. We had two or three great chances and really came away disappointed that we did not win the game.”
The Wakes don’t have a fixture this weekend but return to action on January 28 at Northampton ON Chenecks when Munton will be without Jason Kilbride who was injured while training with the England futsal squad.
Against Harborough Munton was forced to field several reserves but all acquitted themselves well.
The arrival of goalkeeper Matt Gilson has given Munton options with former keeper Dan Jarman enjoying a run outfield.
Munton said: “Matt has taken the pressure off at the back, pulling off some great saves.
“He came in while Dan was away and did well.
“I think Dan has been itching to have a game outfield for a while and he looked lively, almost scoring from a very clever chip.”
With the Wakes first team resting tomorrow, attention will focus on the reserves who host Long Buckby Reserves at the Abbey lawn. Kick off tomorrow is at 2pm.
Bourne: Matt Gilson, Kev Elger, Tom Cardall, Seb Hood (Matt Holdup), Dan Smith, Aaron Jesson, Ron Dunn, Stu Lambie, Josh Kamau (Dan Jarman), Alex Brockbank (Scott McKenzie), Glen Spearink.
