A goal either side of half time saw in form Blackstones beat Bugbrooke St Michaels 2-1 on Saturday to pick up three more points in the UCL Division One in an unimpressive game.

Marred by two red cards which meant the game was played for close to 80 minutes with both sides down to 10 men, Adam Roberts, Bugbrooke, and Ben Porter, Stones, were dismissed for foul and abusive language within minutes of each other.

Stones certainly started with intent, rattling the woodwork on four separate occasions. Zak Fisher first struck the post after just three minutes, Matt Simpson then hit the bar with a header from a corner, then Scott Ginty hit the upright with a powerful drive from distance which nearly up-rooted the posts.

It was Scott though who broke the deadlock when he gave the Stones the lead in the 42nd minute, the home team conceded a freekick 20 yards out, Ginty made no mistake in burying the ball in the back of the net.

Addie Staffieri doubled the visiting lead with a 54th minute penalty having been brought down just outside the right hand edge of the six yard box. The club’s leading goal scorer was not to be denied and gave the home team keeper no chance.

The home team managed to claw a goal back with a 75th minute goal when Crockett, back from a long period of injury, whilst under pressure fumbled a corner, the resultant scrabble saw the home team muscle the ball over the line.

Stones battled on to secure the three points in this untidy battle on an uneven pitch with an inconsistent official, two reds then a yellow for the same offence.

Blackstones now sit in 12th position in the UCL Division One table.

Stones travel to Rushden and Higham on Saturday, then host local rivals Bourne Town on Bank Holiday Monday both kick-offs 3pm.
