Hykeham Tigers U14 1 Pointon U14 4
After two disappointing results, Pointon bounced back with an emphatic victory at North Hykeham.
Leading scorer Michael Fleming fired Pointon into a two goal lead within the first 10 minutes.
The first was an intelligent lob over the home keeper from well outside the box. The second came when a speculative shot from 10 yards was fumbled by the keeper – the advancing Connor Lindley was not required to tap-in as the ball had already crossed the goal line.
Playing into the wind and uphill on a sloping pitch, the visitors found the remainder of the first half heavy going. Hykeham missed a couple of good opportunities to get back into the game, with Pointon keeper Jed Humphries in confident form.
Fleming, chasing his hat-trick hit a post for Pointon early in the second half, before a flowing move involving Shilling, Fleming and Alex Nelms was headed home by Max Graham to put Pointon three up.
Hykeham showed good spirit and pulled a goal back midway through the half, but Pointon reacted immediately when Ed Brady rounded three defenders before coolly slotting the ball home for 4-1.
The home side were pegged back for most of the remaining 15 minutes. Graham had an excellent shot well saved, and Fleming was denied his hat-trick when his volley just missed.
