Deeping Rangers were well beaten by Yaxley last night (Tuesday) after a brilliant first half display laid the ground work for a 3-0 victory in the UCL Premier Division at In2Itive Park.
The win took the Cuckoos top of the Premier Division and dropped Deeping to eighth.
Deeping were under the cosh from the off, with Yaxley’s Dan Cotton volleying wide before a Rob Hughes effort hit the cross bar from the edge of the box.
Spencer Tinkler had a chance to give Deeping the lead but he could only head over a Scott Ginty corner.
The Cuckoos went ahead in the 17th minute when Cotton struck an unstoppable free kick into the next.
Deeping’s keeper Danny Bircham prevented Andy Furnell from doubling the lead when he saved a header from a Callum Reed cross but Rangers couldn’t hold out for long and in the 27th minute Cotton notched his second of the match after latching onto a Scott Carter’s pass.
David Burton-Jones saw a shot well saved by Aaron Butcher in the Yaxley goal before Yaxley’s Reed got behind the defence from a Liam Hook ball to finish.
After the break Deeping had more possession but could not find a break through and it was the new top of the league side who finished on the up, requiring Bircham to be at his best to prevent the score escalating.
