Stamford AFC gave their home of 118 years the perfect send-off with a comprehensive 3-0 win against Rushall Olympic on Saturday.

The historic occasion was marked before the match with the release of 118 red balloons and a minute’s silence. And the players looked determined to mark their final game at the Vic Couzens Stadium with a victory as Ryan Robbins scored with a tidy finish after just a minute.

Dan Lawler doubled the advantage, flicking on a free kick before half time, and Nabil Shariff ensured the Daniels finished with a flourish when he capped a fast counter attack with a third goal just before the hour.

The only worry for the home side was an injury to leading scorer Robbins. The striker later confirmed on Twitter that he had broken a bone in his ankle.

The Daniels will now prepare for their move to the new Zeeco Stadium in Ryhall Road. The first match at the ground will be against Nantwich Town on December 13.
