It was a historic day for Langtoft United on Saturday with the club enjoying cup success and both senior teams gaining league promotion.

The Vikings’ first team claimed the Peterborough League’s Chairman’s Champion Shield with an extra-time final success over First Division rivals Stanground.

Mark Hynes was the cup final hero for Langtoft, heading in the winner in the first period of extra-time to settle a scrappy game played in difficult conditions at Peterborough Sports.

Langtoft’s first team had double the reason to celebrate as they also won promotion to the PDFL Premier Division for the first time in their history thanks to a last-day 2-1 defeat for rivals Holbeach Reserves at champions Thorney.

The promotion of Langtoft’s first team means the club reserves can also be promoted to Division One after finishing runners-up in Division Two.
