Bourne Town completed the first half of a double bill against Thrapston Town in triumphant style on Saturday afternoon.

The Wakes returned victorious from Northamptonshire thanks largely to an outstanding first half display on Saturday.

Bourne blew their hosts away in the opening 30 minutes running up a 3-0 lead in the first half hour and although Thrapston pulled one back after the break Bourne can go into tomorrow evening’s return fixture full of confidence.

Johnny Currall opened the scoring with an excellent strike from the edge of the box after 11 minutes, Craig Rook doubled Bourne’s lead with scrappy second on 25 minutes and five minutes later Ben Easson thumped home Bourne’s third with a low drive from just inside the penalty area.

Assistant manager Steve Elgar said: “The first half performance was the best we have played all season.

“The lads had a break due to the weather and wanted to put right what happened on Boxing Day.”

On that outing, the Wakes were outmuscled by the league’s new boys Harrowby United, going down 3-2 at home but, playing five across midfield on Saturday Bourne were in control throughout.

Elgar added: “Some of the football we played was really, really good one touch passing.

“We in buzzing at half-time but we knew that they would put it right in the second half and we had to battle to ensure that we got the points. Overall we more than deserved the three points.”

Tomorrow’s match at the Abbey Lawn kicks off at 7.45pm.

Bourne: Aaron Bellairs, Kev Elgar, Tom Cardell, Dan Smith, Aaron Jesson, Craig Rook, Lee Wood, Andy Moss (Mike Feely), Ben Easson, Johnny Currall (Seb Hood), Tom Caldicott (Fernand Bass). Sub unused: James McDonnell.
