A Harley Williams double inspired Bourne to their second victory in the space of four days.
Williams, the leading scorer for Bourne’s successful reserve team this season, has stepped up to the plate in style with three goals in two games and on Saturday he helped the Wakes win 3-1 against Bugbrooke at the Abbey Lawn in the UCL Division One.
He put the Wakes ahead after nine minutes and doubled the lead on 74 minutes as Bourne looked to add to their 4-3 midweek victory over Raunds.
Ryan Nash netted with ten minutes to go to pull it back to 2-1 but substitute Joe Bull made the game safe with Bourne’s third on 84 minutes.
Spalding United’s Lewis McKue made his Bourne debut, having signed dual forms, and he impressed while the return of Craig Rook – who has had spells with Oadby Town and Deeping Rangers since leaving Bourne earlier in the campaign – has added more depth to a squad that has been hit by injuries recently.
Delighted boss Rafa Mazzarella’s said: “It was a fully deserved win and it capped a good week.
“I thought in midweek the scoreline flattered Raunds as we deserved to win by more, and again on Saturday the players did their jobs well.
“We have scored seven in two games, whereas we had been struggling to score, so things are looking better now.
“We had a chat after the Potton defeat and got things out in the open, and we decided to change the way we play. We are trying to play more open and freely and it’s gone well in the last two games.”
Bourne are now 13th in the league and travel to Rothwell Corinthians on Saturday.
Bourne: Fagan, Hall, D. Wilson, Moss, Jesson, Elger, Wallace (Bull), McKue (Rook), Dunn, Williams, De Sousa (Spearink).
