Bourne Town claimed a 4-3 home win over Raunds Town in the UCL Division One last night (Tuesday) but the victory should have been by a much more comfortable score line.
The Wakes went 4-0 up through Aaron Jesson, Harley Williams and Henry Dunn’s double before conceding three times in the final five minutes.
Despite the mini collapse at the end of the game it was a good and important victory for the Wakes who had lost their last three games before last night.
Jesson struck the first goal just six minutes into the match and then Williams doubled the lead three minutes later.
Dunn made it 3-0 six minutes before the half time.
He then struck again in the 77th minute and it looked like Bourne had all three precious points in the bag.
They did but only just. Raunds opened the scoring through Jed Ainge in the 86th minute and then just two minutes later Lewis Hallford added a second.
Dave Townsend followed that up with a 90th minute third to make it 4-3 and the final whistle could not come fast enough for the Wakes.
In the end they were left relieved to earn the victory having seen other sides comeback to deny them all three points earlier in the season.
The win takes them up to 15th in the 20 team league.
