Bourne Ladies Football team have been inspired by the successes of the England Ladies team in the recent World Cup Championship in Canada.

After the Lionesses claimed third place at the tournament, following their 1-0 success over old rivals Germany, the club hopes to hear from more females looking to get involved in the sport.

They have just begun pre-season training and are inviting any willing new players (aged 16 or over) to come and join them.

There is no upper limits to the age ranges as the club have several veteran players.

Any girls under 16 should visit the Bourne Town Juniors website www.bournetownjuniorsfc.co.uk for further information.

They can play in mixed teams or girls only sides.

Last season saw Bourne Ladies finish second in the Stech League championship for the northern region.

This season, they aim for the top spot.

Claire Lawrenson - the team’s striker - also gained the accolade of top scorer in the whole league with 22 goals throughout the season.

Matches are normally on a Sunday (but not every week) starting in September, and information on the Stech league can be found on www.full-time.thefa.com.

Matches in the Championship are played at home and in North Cambridgeshire.

If the team reach their goal of winning this league, next year they aim to move into the regional Premiership.

The team are currently sponsored for their team kit by The Sugarmill pub of Bourne.

However, more funds are needed for match fees and equipment and the club would like to hear from any further potential sponsors.

Training takes place on a Thursday at 6.30pm at the Recreation Road playing field.
