Bourne Town boss Rafa Mazzarella was a satisfied man after seeing his side’s 1-0 win against a Rushden and Higham United side alongside them in mid-table.

Scott Spearink’s winner leaves the Wakes in 13th place in UCL Division One with a derby game at Blackstones to come tomorrow (Saturday).

Mazzarella said: “We’re happy because we’re doing well here (at Abbey Lawn) and we’re doing well away (from home).

“We’re making it harder for teams to beat us and that’s our second clean sheet in a row.

“Our squad is small and it’s being tested, but we’re doing well with what we’ve got and it goes to show that we’ve got a good, strong reserve side as well.

“I wanted a mid-table finish at the beginning of the season but I underestimated the league a little bit and we’ve got to try to bring a couple of people in because we’re struggling at the minute.

“We’ve got pace and threat going forward but I’m not sure we’re experienced enough to be all over the pitch and still dig out performances.

“We’re halfway through the season and it’s taken quite a while to learn what our levels are, but we’ll continue trying to do well.”

Blackstones come into the derby game having lost 4-2 on Saturday at Rothwell Corinthians.

This year the derby game takes place at Blackstones’ Lincoln Road ground.

Kick-off is 2pm.
