Fighting Cocks add league title to Knockout Cup win
THE Fighting Cocks B secured the double lifting the league and knockout cup in the Bourne Winter Pool League.
Bourne Snooker Club was the venue for the presentation where the team were awarded their double winners trophies.
It was a closely contested league, although the squad of John Lord (captain), Mark Kelham, Kris Hunt, Martin Scott, Nigel Dexter, Simon Dexter, Charmaine Lord, Julie Scott and Ian Yarnell were strong enough to clinch the knockout cup with a 10-4 victory over their home rivals, The Fighting Cocks A team.
They then won the league to round off their season in style.
The finals of the singles knockout cup and the play-off for top cue were also played on the night.
John Lord, of Fighting Cocks B, and Jason Bates (Red Lion B) had won the same amount of matches, a remarkable 26 out of 29 singles matches which forced a play-off, which Jason won 3-0.
As consolation Lord walked away with the Captains’ Cup with a 2-0 victory over Becky Stone of the Five Bells team.
Mark Kelham, also from The Fighting Cocks B, played his singles knockout final, coming out on top with a 3-2 win over Neil Scotney of the Red Lion C side. The game was won in emphatic style with an outstanding shot on the black to claim the title.
