CRICKET: 'Bourne must do better' - skipper David Christmas
SKIPPER David Christmas is calling for a big improvement tomorrow after a poor batting display saw Bourne beaten heavily by Caistor last weekend.
The captain sees the visit of Grimsby to the Abbey Lawn as the perfect match to get his team's Lincs ECB Premier League campaign back on track.
After Caistor won by 80 runs, he said: "We had a really good win against Louth the week before and then played as poorly as we can against Caistor.
"We didn't show enough application and it was just one of those days. Hopefully we can put it right against Grimsby and I can't see any reason why we can't finish in the top three again this season."
Chasing a modest 180-9 (Harry Boulton 63), Bourne lost cheap early wickets on Saturday and never looked like getting the runs.
Chris Bamber (30) and Christmas (20) were the only players to reach double figures for the visitors as they slumped to an 80-run defeat.
Jefferson (4-29) and France (3-26) did the damage. Earlier, Bourne's bowling attack was weakened by injury to dangerous quickie Charlie Hopkins, who was unable to send any down.
Chris Dring claimed 3-46 and there were two wickets apiece for Bamber and Stroud as Caistor posted their total, Bishop top-scoring with 40.
Market Deeping are off the bottom of the table after chalking up their opening victory, a four-wicket success against Lincoln Lindum.
The city side, who were in third spot at the start of play, were limited to 180-9.
Deeping lost six wickets in reaching the target with Lee Peacock making a welcome return to the side with an innings of 51 and Tom Andrews contributing 42. Matt Rutherford did his best to limit Deeping as he returned excellent figures of 5-31.
Deeping are at Messingham tomorrow.
Gihan Perrera flew into Britain on Friday night – and on Saturday afternoon he shook off any jet lag to hit 67 runs to help Grimsby to a six-wicket victory over Sleaford and a move up to third place in the table after three games.
Playing at Augusta Street, Sleaford posted 178-8, with Tom Shorthouse hitting 52 and Oliver Burford making 56 against his old club, but though Richard Antcliffe missed out on his third successive century, he too made 67 to see his team home.
Messingham.were left chasing a modest 170 at Jubilee Park against Woodhall Spa but, despite Cameron Fletcher's knock of 55, fell 19 runs short, hanging on to their last wicket to claim the extra points.
At the top, Nettleham failed to overtake Bracebridge's 252-7, of which Paul Cook made 92, but ensured that they stayed second and in touch with the leaders by taking a share of the points, finishing 207-6, Sam Hickingbotham top-scoring with 63 not out.
Skegness made it three draws out of three, this time taking the lion's share of the points at home to Louth. Wade McCall hit 94 to take his side to maximum batting points with 225-9, while for Louth Jason Collinson took five wickets.
Jim Morgan than scored the day's only century with 105 but, despite losing only four wickets, Louth fell short of the run rate, ending on 210-4.
