Cricket: Peacock smashes seven sixes in superb innings
A BLISTERING seven sixes from stand-in skipper Lee Peacock saw Market Deeping to victory against Lindum in the Lincolnshire Premier Division at Outgang Road on Saturday.
Batting at number eight, Peacock's battery of boundaries, which also included three fours on his way to an unbeaten 59, helped Deeping to 205-7 which proved just enough to win.
Four of his sixes came from successive balls off the unfortunate and previously accurate Matt Rutherford.
Middle order batsmen Chris Jones made 45, his best contribution for a while, and openers Gary Yeeles and Jamie Morgan made 39 and 36 respectively as Deeping closed the gap on the mid-table teams.
The Lincoln side finished 12 runs short falling for 193 with Robinson making 63 before being caught brilliantly by wicket-keeper Morgan. Charlie Kearns took three early wickets and returned to bag two more later on to finish with figures of 5-47.
Bourne's nine-game unbeaten streak came to an end at Skegness where the home side emerged victorious by two wickets.
David Christmas was caught just short of a half-century on 49 and Conrad Louth made 43 as Bourne posted a competitive target of 183.
But Bourne were made to pay for a series of cheap wickets including Cliff Spinks (1), Owen Smith (0) and Tom Lindley. Even the previously big-scoring Fahad Masood allowed himself to be dismissed cheaply, caught on 7.
Skegness were cruising to victory at one point but despite a late collapse triggered by Masood (5-41), Bourne's hosts hobbled to 186-8.
Despite the defeat, Bourne remain top courtesy of results elsewhere.
Hartsholme pulled off the shock of the weekend with a four wicket win over Bracebridge Heath who had appeared to be fighting back from a run of defeats.
The current champions were bowled out for 158 by the bottom team, Martin Shillito and Liam Hargrave taking four wickets each while Ben Davis hit 81 to take his side to victory.
Louth also celebrated a surprise win when they overcame second placed Nettleham with Seth Rance taking five wickets as the Lincoln side were all out for 127.
The highest scoring game was at Grimsby where the home side reached 230 for six but still lost to Woodhall Spa.
Sleaford overwhelmed Boston in the division's remaining fixture.
Tomorrow Bourne play Nettleham away and Market Deeping visit Woodhall Spa.
Bourne's Fahad Masood tops the division's bowling figures with an average of 11.48 runs per wicket. He has claimed 46 wickets this summer.
