Cricket: Joyce closes in on 1,000 runs

BILLINGBOROUGH cemented their place at the top of the South Lincolnshire and Border League Division One with a seven wicket win over Belton Park.

Mark Joyce just falling short of his 1,000 run target but took his wicket haul to 38 with a tally of five for 27 as Billingborough dismissed their hosts for 113 before making 115-3.

Billingborough now lead Sleaford 2nd by 20 points with Lindum in third after going down to Sleaford by three wickets and Spalding still in fourth following their seven wicket victory over Bourne 2nd.

Matt Creaney made 32 and Matt Pottle made 23 but otherwise Bourne struggled to 124.

Market Deeping breezed past Boston with a 29 run victory. Deeping set Boston a target of 173-7 with Ed Davies unbeaten on 61.

In Division Two, Billingborough 2nds will want to forget their defeat to Welby in which they managed a paltry 27 runs.

Dickinson (10) was the only player to make double figures in response to Welby's 137.

Stamford opened up a big gap at the top of the division by beating second-placed Sleaford on Sunday.

In Division Three, Baston's game at Grantham was abandoned.
