Cricket: Bourne bowlers show no mercy
BOURNE's Fahad Masood took six wickets on Saturday to take his season's tally to 52 in the Lincolnshire Premier Division.
Masood's contribution ensured a quick win for the Abbey Lawn side who strengthened their position at the top with an eight wicket win over third-placed Nettleham.
Nettleham were dismissed for a paltry 75 in just 25 overs with Tom Lindley almost as destructive as Masood, taking four for 22.
Masood took a the key wicket of the league's top scorer, South African Warren Nel during the opening exchanges for a duck and it set the tone for the innings as only two batsmen made double figures.
Bourne then wrapped up the game in under 45 minutes with Owen Smith (26), Will Epsom (24), Masood (22no) and Will Clough (1no) knocking off the runs in no time.
Six games remain in the league with the league record of 68 wickets well within Masood's reach.
Bourne host Lindum on Saturday while their closest challengers Skegness host Nettleham, who are now fourth, and last year's champions Bracebridge Heath visit Grimsby.
Meanwhile Market Deeping continue to turn around their season with a second successive victory, winning by one wicket at Woodhall Spa.
Skipper David Gillett was missing and again Lee Peacock captained the side who prevented Woodhall from settling with the bat and then edged home as their own tail looked fragile.
Peacock pushed hard-hitting Ali Sharp to opener and his decision paid off with a quick 37 as Deeping set off in pursuit of the home side's 150 all out.
Jamie Morgan contributed a stylish 47 but Deeping then lost a clatter of wickets to set up a tense finale. Chris Jones kept his head to remain unbeaten on 18, cleverly pinching the winning run before nervous last-man Tom Anderson had to face a ball.
Earlier Tom Andrews had claimed the prize scalp of Pakistani one-day international Fawad Alam for just two with a beautiful delivery which shattered the professional's stumps.
Andrews bagged 2-41, but was overshadowed statistically by Brodie Andrew whose medium pacers were ideally suited to a sluggish surface as confirmed by impressive figures of 5-48 from 17 overs.
Elsewhere second placed Skegness won at Hartsholme but picked up only 15 points after the home side recovered from 10 for four to hang on to their last wicket.
Bracebridge Heath moved to third despite seeing their match washed out with six overs to go.
