Cavan wins annual Handicap chase

BOURNE Town Harriers held their annual Christmas Handicap at Bourne Wood on Monday.

Sue Stevens was the first Harrier to set off with everyone else starting at handicap intervals after her. Sue managed to hold off all but one runner, Rob Caven who chased her down and won the senior race with Sue second and Dave Grace in third.

Other seniors taking part were Rich Lomas-Brown, Brian McLean, Peter Swallow, Penny Lamb, Richard Pearson, Adam Swallow, Mark Cochran, Vaughan Roberts, Roland Stevens, Louise Swallow, Mark Thorogood, Richard Smithers, Charlie Noble, Matt Green and Marcus Swallow.

Charlotte Stevens won the junior race, finishing ahead of Beth Howells (second) and Jasmine Hammond (third). Other juniors competing were Jack Stevens, Molly Bennett, Saskia Hunt, Leah Clark, Keeley Caven, Izzy Harriss, Daniel Lawrence, Aaron Hunt, Joe Howells and Martin Clarke.

After the race, the Harriers held their draw for the club’s London Marathon places. Vaughan Roberts, Shaun Towell and Charlie Noble were the lucky trio drawn from the hat to compete in this year’s race in April.

A small team of Harriers is expected to compete at the Lincolnshire League Cross Country County Championships at Louth on Sunday with a full squad planning to take part when the Frostbite League returns a week later at March.
