Bourne lose tense derby
STAMFORD Town 2nds edged a tense local derby against Bourne 2nds in the Rutland League Division Five, winning by six wickets with just nine balls remaining.
Stamford made the most of some favourable bowling conditions on Sunday with tight opening spells from skipper James Calder and Dave Piggott.
The latter took out Bourne captain, Dirk Binns with a sharp one-handed slip catch from Steve Holland but it was Richard Dytham who did most damage.
Dytham took six wickets for 47 runs from a fine 12 over spell, leaving Bourne on 163 for 8, with David Christmas, returning from injury, to top-score on 48.
Stamford's reply centred around Clive Simmons who looked in fine form but when Bourne claimed his wicket for 38 the balance swung the visitors' way.
Sensible batting from David Piggott (21) and Jason MacBeath (25 no), also returning from injury, and a clinical finish teenager Alex Emerson saw Stamford home.
Emerson who was faced with 12 to win off two overs smashed a six, a four and then cleverly manoeuvred a two to win in just three of the 12 available deliveries.
Elsewhere in the Rutland League Barnack beat Market Deeping and Bourne's 1st XI beat Wisbech.
