Billingborough move to the top
BILLINGBOROUGH moved to the top of Division One of the South Lincolnshire and Border League with a low-scoring victory over former leaders Lindum Ramblers 2nd on Saturday.
Mark Joyce (42) and Steve Scott (41) were the top scorers as Billingborough posted a modest 151 off 44.1 overs.
Joyce is the league's top scorer with a total of 810 from 10 matches with an average of almost 116. The all-rounder has also claimed 29 wickets at an average of 9.41 per wicket.
Tom Harrison made 21 before being bowled by Rohan Perera and tailender Paul Goodwin hit an unbeaten 21 but few other Billingborough batsmen made much of an impression with the bat.
Fortunately for Billingborough, Lindum's innings was even worse despite a knock of 36 from opener William Wright.
All Billingborough's four bowlers were economical with Mark Joyce's 4-17 and Dave Newman's 4-27 the pick of the bowling figures as Billingborough dismissed Lindum for 96 to win by 55 runs.
Elsewhere in Division One Bourne beat Belton Park by 71 runs.
Will Epson hit 76 not out as Bourne made 160-8 off their 45 overs at the Abbey lawn.
Matt Pottle claimed four wickets and Tom Bentley and Xanti Xipu took three each as Bourne dismissed Belton for a meagre 89.
Market Deeping bounced back after the previous week's disappointing defeat to rivals Bourne with a win at Moulton Harrox.
Openers Nick Andrews (56) and Alex Wheatley (55) were back on form with half-centuries as Deeping made 154-6.
Andrews then took two wickets for 34 as Deeping beat Harrox by 30 runs but pick of the Deeping bowlers were Matthew Rose and Josh Green who both took three wickets.
Rose took a tight three for 15 and Green three for 20 as the Harrox innings stuttered to 124.
In Division Two Billingborough 2nds lost their match at Thomas Cook by 103 runs.
Billingborough never really settled in their reply to Cook's 219-6 and were dismissed for 116.
The result leaves Billingborough fifth but well off the pace of the top two sides, Sleaford and Stamford Town.
Billingborough's 2nds face Skegness 2nds on Saturday while in top flight, the club's 1st XI take on Boston at home.
Bourne visit Grantham and Market Deeping host Lindum Ramblers at Outgang Road on Saturday.
