Award nominees

Nominees for the 2007 Local Sports Awards have been announced. Winners will be given trophies at a glittering ceremony at Bourne Corn Exchange on Friday October 19.

Talented sportsmen and woman have been shortlisted but you still have the chance to vote for the Readers' Sports Personality of the Year

Those shortlisted are as follows:

Sportsman of the year: Golfer Adam Chamberlain, swimmer Adam Mallet and footballer Tim Quy.

Sportswoman of the year: Tae-kwon-do black belt Annabel Murcott, cyclist Gabriella Day and athlete Julie Hollman.

Young sportsman: Shot putter Robert Mohan and golfers Scott Freer and Michael Pressick.

Young sportswoman: Footballer Megan Thompson and trampolinist Lucy Catling.

Team of the year: Bourne Cricket Club, Deeping Rangers FC and Deepings Rugby Club

Sporting Moments:

Brian Makwana, lived the cricketer's dream when he hammered an amazing 179 for the Motley Crew at Lord's.

Bourne Town FC staged an incredible fightback to overturn a two-goal half-time deficit to score five unanswered goals in the second half in their away match against Diss in the FA Vase second qualifying round replay.

South African-born cricketer Bula Xipu returned club record figures with 7-57 in just under 11 overs to set up a four-wicket victory over Messingham at the Abbey Lawn in May.

Young team of the year: Bourne Grammar School's Under 13 rugby team, Bourne Grammar School's junior boys' athletics team and Bourne Cricket Club Under 17s.

Young footballer of the year: Callum Reed and Rhys Evans.

Manager/coach of the year: Tuncay Korkmaz and Simon Dethick.
