ATHLETICS: Emma breaks club record
Some of the top young athletes from Bourne were in action for Nene Valley Harriers in the opening National Young Athlete League match at Leicester.
With a strong wind down the back straight, personal bests were not the order of the day for the middle distance runners.
Emma Hornsby celebrated three wins in the U13 girl's events, clocking 20.01secs in the 100m, streaking to victory in the 70m hurdles and smashing the club long jump record with a leap of 4.74m.
In the Under 13 Boys' races, Alex Hampson ran a brave race to finish second in the 1,500m in 5mins 12secs and also managed fourth in the 200m in 30.6.
It was also a busy day in the same age group for Matt Hudson, who recorded 14.9secs in the 100m, 31.7secs over 200m and 3.62 metres in the long jump.
Under 15 boy Ben Hampson had another good win in the 800m in 2mins 16secs and finished second in the 400m in 60.8secs.
James Thomas, also an under 15, battled through to third in the 1,500m in 5mins 16.5secs. Jade Carvath-Smith collected points in the under 15 girls, winning the B string 1,500m in 5.24.1.
In the Under 17 girls, Beth Thomas ran a good 200m in 29.8secs and also finished second in the B string 800m in 2.44.8.
