Alex is quickest on a bleak day
LOCAL athletes represented Lincolnshire in the Five Counties Anglian Schools Championships at Holbrooke, Ipswich, last Saturday.
The races were held overlooking the sea on a bleak day with Emma Gibb and Alice Callicut in the opening event, the Minor Girls race. Emma finished 15th and Alice 32nd. In the Minor Boys race, Bradley Allan stormed through to 11th after a poor start.
Pheobe Whattoff, for the Junior Girls, but ran to form in 56th.
The Junior Boys race over a distance just more than 4k suited the two local lads. Alex Hampson was always in contention and his 6th place was the best local position. Another fine run by Michael Cawood was rewarded with 17th place. He is getting better with every competition. Amy Gibbons ran strongly over a 3.9k course to come home in 28th for the Intermediate Girls.
The last race with local interest was in the Intermediate Boys. An excellent 12th by Chris Allison was well backed up by two younger colleagues; Billy Mugnier 26th and James McCrae 48th.
The next competition for these athletes will be the National Cross Country Championships in London over the traditional course at Parliament Hill when they will represent Nene Valley Harriers.
