A FIFTEEN handicap golfer from Bourne will walk in the footsteps of Open Championship winner Padraig Harrington next month.
Simon Goode, a 29-year-old senior credit analyst, will compete in the inaugural People's Open Golf tournament final day at Royal Birkdale on August 21.

And daunting though that may be, the married father of one is relishing the challenge.

Goode said: "It's a great idea. You don't get the chance to play an Open course very often.

"Mind you, the course scares me a bit – but I hope to do well."

A long term fan of professional Olly Wilson, Goode got a taste of the Southport course last weekend.

But having only taken the game up again two years ago, winning the tournament looks a difficult task.

Goode added: "I learned to play golf at the age of nine or ten but then I got involved in a lot of cricket and hockey at school.

"So when I went back to golf, knew roughly what I was doing."

The tournament is sponsored by Ronacrete and Burdens and has the Daily Express as media partner.
