Ace Adam betters his brother's best

A BOURNE schoolboy broke his elder brother's school record at the Lincolnshire Schools County Athletics Championships held at Boston on Saturday.
Adam Mohan broke the record for the shot put at Bourne Grammar School, that was set by his brother Robert in 2006.

His best throw of 14m10 was almost one metre further than Robert’s 13m17 and won Adam one of two golds he claimed in the Under 17 boys’ age group.

Adam also won the discus with 40.16m into a tricky wind. Both his winning throws were qualifying standard for the English Schools Championships.

Ewan Jones was another star performer from Bourne Grammar School at the event, winning the u15 bunior boys 100m with a time of 11.9s, just one tenth of a second outside the English School entry standard. Ewan also finished fourth in the shot with 10.17m.

Both athletes have been selected to represent Lincolnshire in the Anglian School Championships in Norwich on Saturday and joining them will be Rachel Gale who finished second in the u17 girls shot with a put of 8.07m, Beth Thomas who was 3rd in the girls 800m with 2min 43.5 and Charlotte Davison 3rd in the junior girls high jump with 1.40m.

Katie Lee, who was the only runner in the senior girls 3,000m in a time of 12.14.1 has also been selected.

Bourne Grammar School was well represented at the championships.

Alex Millar, running in only his second 100m hurdles finished third with a new school record of 14.8s. Ben Christie, throwing a 5kg hammer for the first time finished 3rd with 23.23m and ran 4.59.9 to finish 4th in the 1,500m.

In the high jump Beth Ward jumped 1.39m for third place and finished sixth in the 80m Hurdles with 14.3s.

In the junior boys, Haydn Rice threw a new personal best of 34.85m in the javelin to finish third.

Nathan Denial gained valuable experience against older boys to reach the final of the 400m where he finished 8th with a new personal best of 60.3seconds.

For the junior girls, Jade Carvath Smith improved her own school record by 0.1s with 5.18.1 in the 1,500m, Sophie Marsden reached the final of both the 100m (13.7s) and 200m (28.7s), and Louise Applegarth ran 13.8s to finish 7th in the 75m Hurdles.

l Robert Mohan, competing in the Leicestershire Schools championships, threw a new personal best and broke a 15 year old record to win the senior boys shot put with 16.38m.

Robert is coached by former World Strongest Man and British Shot Put record holder Geoff Capes and trains at Loughborough University.
