The Rotary Club of Bourne staged its 21st Annual Young Musician Competition at Bourne Academy on Sunday 19th January.

As in previous years the standard of the young people participating was extremely high, giving the adjudicating panel of Margaret Wainwright, Keith Noakes and Ken Wainwright an unenviable task which they carried out with great professionalism. In the end 7 gold awards and 5 silver awards were given. The gold awardees will go forward to the Rotary District 1070 semi-final in early February.

The winners were:

Gold: Bourne Westfield Primary Academy Jazz Band, Bourne Westfield Primary Academy Choir and Bourne Abbey CE Primary Academy Upper Choir.

Soloists: Isobel Forvargue, Joseph Kirkwood, Becky Taylor and James McCrea.

Silver: Edenham CE Primary School Choir, Morton CE School Choir and Bourne Abbey CE Primary Academy Junior Choir.

Soloists: Sofia Welch and Molly Welling

The Mike Silverwood Trophy for best performance of the day was awarded to Joseph Kirkwood.

The Rotary Club of Bourne thanks Wild Heart Music for sponsoring the Band Prize, the Adjudicators, Bourne Academy and The Inner Wheel Club of Bourne who provided refreshments, and most importantly all the entrants their teachers and parents without whom there would be no competition.
