Dare to be Different group held an Easter themed sensory play day for all the children.

The turnout was fantastic and the day was a huge success. Dare to be different group normally meet on a monthly basis at Bourne children’s centre. This informal get together provides parents and carers of children with special needs with much needed support and friendship from others in the same situation.

The fun day was held at the Bourne Abbey church hall, in order to accommodate all the children, as well as the wide range of activities on offer. There were many different activities available for children with many different needs. From a dark den complete with sensory lights and a comfy reading room full of cushions and books for those who preferred a bit of peace and quiet.

To messy play, sensory play, art and craft activities and cake decorating for the more adventurous.

Each child created their own Easter basket, which were filled with Easter treats, kindly donated by Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

Face painting was kindly provided free of charge courtesy of the amazing Clare from ‘Making Faces’.

The children and parents also enjoyed interactive storytelling, dancing and parachute games, led by former Butlins Redcoat, Chris Tilley.

Parents particularly enjoyed having this day dedicated to children with special needs and their siblings as they felt it was a safe and supportive environment for their children to be free to be their unique selves, without risk of judgement from others.

Feedback was so positive that the group will endeavour to make these fun days a regular event during school holidays. Dare to be Different is a non-profit organisation, which relies on charitable donations.
