In the last week of term, four Bourne Westfield sports teams competed at four different sports across the county, with some excellent results.
KS2 pupils took part in a new cross country and athletics event organised by Bourne Academy.
After some rain in the days prior to the event the weather on the day was fine and the rain thankfully stayed away.
Each year group from year 3 to year 6 took part in cross country events over distances ranging from 800 metres to 1200 metres.
The Westfield children got off to a positive start with the year 3 boys coming second and third, but after that the year 3 girls won their race followed by further wins by the year 4 and 5 boys and the year 4 and 5 girls! Year 6 boys also won and the year 6 girls came second and third, mirroring the year 3 boys’ results.
Each year group then participated in a series of 100 metre races where Westfield continued their successes with wins not only in the year 4, 5 and 6 boys’ races but also in the year 3, 4 and 5 girls’ races. The whole event was very well organised and the children thoroughly enjoyed the competition.
Later the same week our tag rugby team travelled to Lincoln RFC where they represented South East Lincolnshire in the County Tag Rugby Finals.
In the morning they played in a league of five to see which team would play in an afternoon league competing to represent the county in the East Midlands Finals.
Unfortunately, Westfield were slow out of the blocks and lost a closely fought match to a strong Uffington side, that went on to finish second overall and qualify as one of two sides that would go forward to represent Lincolnshire at the East Midlands Finals.
Westfield got more into their stride as the day progressed; playing some fast flowing rugby, but the damage had already been done and by the end of the day finished second in their afternoon league coming eighth overall.
To finish the week off we sent teams to compete in a tennis tournament at Bourne Abbey Lawns and an athletics competition at the Witham Hall School.
The competition at both events was of an extremely high standard.
Our year 3 tennis team competed for the first time in a tennis competition, doing themselves proud, playing against some experienced players from other schools and finishing a creditable 7th overall.
The year 4 team played some great tennis and competed well against teams from Deepings and Langtoft finishing in a creditable fourth place behind an excellent Deepings team and two teams from Langtoft.
Finally, our year 4 athletics team competed for the first time in a competition at Witham Hall School.
Not knowing quite what to expect the children were a little apprehensive on arrival, but soon settled in to their new surroundings and competed with some determination in all the events, scoring some notable wins in both the track and field events.
At the end of the afternoon, after some super competition in fantastic surroundings, the Westfield teams did extremely well coming third in the girls’ competition and first in the boys’ competition, rounding off a very busy and successful week for Westfield sports teams.
